GCR05 FAULT DIAGNOSTICS OBDII / EOBD CODE READERAn inexpensive and useful fault code reader. Very simple to use, just plug it into the diagnostic socket, inside the PT near the accelerator pedal, and switch on the ignition to read the codes on the tool’s display. The accompanying handbook gives instructions and shows what faults are indicated by each code. Once the fault is fixed, the code reader can be used to erase the code and the engine-check light . GCR25 FAULT DIAGNOSTICS OBDII/EOBD CODE READERMost functions on modern cars like the PT Cruiser are electronically monitored and should a fault occur it will stored in the car’s computer as a 5 digit code. This very useful tool will read the fault codes applying to the engine, transmission and emissions and display the fault on the large display. Once the fault is fixed, the code reader can be used to erase the code and the engine-check light . As well as displaying freeze-frame data (a snapshot view of the various sensor values when the actual fault occurred) it also will display live data too. This feature is very useful in helping to find hard to locate or intermittent faults as car can be driven with the GCR25 plugged in. If a fault should occur, the GCR25 will either display it or give readouts of any sensor malfunctions/voltages etc. (For obvious safety reasons, a passenger would be needed to read the display). Very simple to use, just plug it into the diagnostic socket, inside the car near the accelerator pedal, and switch on the ignition. If there is, or has been, a fault it will be displayed. For example, I removed the lead between the coil and spark plug No.1 on my PT Cruiser. The reader displayed “Ignition coil secondary circuit A malfunction” (A being the No. 1 cylinder.) Ideal for the PT owner, it can also be used to check almost any make of modern car. HAYNES PT CRUISER SERVICE AND REPAIR MANUALVery useful repair/maintenance manual for the PT Cruiser. It covers the 2.0, 2.4 and 2.4 litre turbo models. Unfortunately, at present, there is no manual available specifically for the 2.2 diesel PTs. However, apart from the engine and gearbox, the diesel PT is virtually identical to the petrol versions - sharing the same suspension, brakes, steering, interior and exterior for example. The PT Cruiser has changed very little over the years, even the updated 2006-2010 version is mechanically the same as the 2000-2005 models. BONNET STRUT KITThis is a very practical PT Cruiser accessory. The two struts allow the bonnet to open and close in the same way as the hatchback, getting rid of the yellow hand prop. Mechanics and PT owners often forget to take down the prop before closing the bonnet. (I know I’ve done it myself more than once.) At best it’s annoying, at worst it can leave a nasty dent in your bonnet. The kit comes with full instructions, and fitting is easy, taking around 20 minutes.
